The TTLA is a popular vegan, plant-based sandwich that meat eaters will also enjoy!
The TTLA - Tomato, Tempeh Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado is a sandwich at Whole Foods Market that was made famous by Tabitha Brown when she posted this video of herself in her car eating a TTLA. It's a truly delightful video, so do watch it!
Next time you're at a Whole Foods Market, please try this sandwich. And as Tabitha mentions, do get some dill pickle with it.
The TTLA has such a wonderful combination of flavors and textures. It is one of my go-to sandwiches!
The great news is that the TTLA sandwich can easily be made at home. Just get all the ingredients and assemble your sandwich.
The key ingredient is the tempeh bacon which is the Lightlife Tempeh Smoky Bacon strips. This tempeh bacon is popular so it's pretty easy to find it in any mainstream grocery store.
Ingredients:
Lightlife Tempeh Smoky Bacon
Vegan Garlic Aioli
Tomato slices
Avocado Slices
Red Onions
Mixed Greens or Lettuce
Bread of your choice - Ciabatta roll, Pugliese roll, Sourdough bread, etc
You can use the tempeh bacon right out of the package. I like to microwave the bacon on HIGH for about 20-25 seconds to crisp the bacon up a bit.
NOTES:
Follow Your Heart makes an amazing Organic Vegan Garlic Aioli Vegenaise. If you can find it, please do try it. It's incredible! It's my favorite spread, and I use it in sandwiches and to make salads like potato and pasta salads, or a chickpea "tuna" salad.
Make a quick garlic aioli
To make a quick and easy garlic aioli at home, just mix together 3 tablespoons of vegan mayo, a couple shakes of garlic powder, a pinch of salt, and a quick squeeze of lemon (about 1 tsp.)
If you want to be extra, crush a clove of garlic and chop into small bits. Mix in with the other ingredients. Let the aioli sit for about 10-15 minutes in the fridge to let the garlic flavor fuse with the mayo.
For the lettuce
I like using Butter Lettuce because it has a nice crisp sweet crunch which is a nice complement with the smoky flavor in the bacon.
ENJOY!
